STELLAR 2020.. 1st Anniversary Online Auction of New Paintings
Last year in NYC’s LES neighborhood.. I held my first art exhibition in many years entitled STELLAR. I then followed that up with a Print Show during the Christmas holiday at the same location.
This year, the plan was to do another two shows. Then the Coronavirus came along and changed the world as we know it. That doesn’t mean the shows are going to stop though. I’ve decided to pivot, and on the anniversary of the first STELLAR art exhibition, do an online auction of NEW paintings titled STELLAR 2020. The auction will start on July 15 at 11am EST and will end on July 24 at 3pm.
For inspiration, I’m looking back to a small collection of black and white drawings that I created during the mid 1990’s, more specifically 1993-1997. At that time, I might only finish 2-3 drawings per year but in my heart I still felt like I was an artist. The technique and themes were very reminiscent of my life in those days. I used ballpoint pens, markers and paper to create the work because I didn’t have the money or space to use paint and canvases. The subject matter consisted of both life in Harlem right before gentrification began, and also life in Atlanta right before the Olympics came to town. These new works will continue the conversation that the older themes began in one way another... either through style, colorways or subject matter.
